Italians just do it better. (Unless “it” is efficiency or electing politicians that can keep it in their pants, but that’s another story.) Their espresso is more potent, their wines more full-bodied, their food more delectable, their fashions more glamourous, and their women sexier than anywhere else. All contributing to Italy’s formidable aesthetic and cultural legacy, a symbiotic balancing of smooth, understated elegance bursting with hot-blooded sex appeal.

No wonder, then, that the boot-shaped nation was the muse of Bella Ciao, a new Berlin-based line of urban bikes whose look was inspired by vintage Milanese cycles, particularly those used in the Italian Resistance movement. All voluptuous curves and elegant silhouettes, each model comes with covetable features like a handmade steel frame, polished aluminum detailing, a leather saddle and hand-sewn leather handlebar grips.

The look and parts come from northern Italy; the finished product is assembled here to take advantage of German perfectionism. The result: what Bella Ciao founder Matthias Maier calls “Italy in her purest, most tempting form.”

Now that’s sexy.

Italiener haben's einfach drauf. (Die Wahl von Politikern, die nicht ständig ihren Gürtel aufschnallen müssen, mal ausgenommen. Aber wir wollen nicht abschweifen.) Der Espresso ist kräftiger, die Weine aromatischer, das Essen köstlicher, die Mode glamouröser und die Frauen attraktiver als sonst wo auf der Welt. Das Aufeinandertreffen von schlichter Eleganz und heißblütigem Sexappeal fügsich wunderbar ein in das allgemein beneidenswerte ästhetische und kulturelle Erbe dieser Nation.

Kein Wunder also, dass Italien die Muse für Bella Ciaos Stadtfahrräder war, deren Design sich vor allem an klassischen mailändischen Drahteseln aus der Zeit der italienischen Widerstandsbewegung orientiert.

Neben üppigen Kurven und einer eleganten Silhouette verfügt jedes Modell über schicke Details wie einen handgefertigten Rahmen aus Stahl, polierte Aluminiumdetails, einen Ledersattel und handgenähte Lenkergriffe aus Leder.

Während Design und Bauteile aus Norditalien stammen, werden die Fahrräder in Berlin qualitäts- und detailversessen zusammengebaut. Resultat, so Bella Ciao-Gründer Matthias Maier: „Italien in verführerischer Reinform“.
